Nepal feiert Dashain 2080: De gréisste Hinduist Festival

Nepal is alive with celebrations today as it observes Dashain, a significant Hindu festival symbolizing the victory of good over evil. People across the country exchange blessings, perform rituals, and receive Tika and Jamara from elders.

Dashain, often referred to as “Vijaya Dashami,” marks the victory of good over evil and the goddess Durga’s triumph over the demon Mahishasura. According to another Hindu mythology, Dashain also marks the day when Lord Rama defeated the evil Ravana and rescued Sita from his captivity.

Nepalese across the country are participating in traditional rituals, feasting with their families, and exchanging blessings and good wishes. The festival, which lasts for 15 days, started with the planting of barley seeds known as “Jamara,” on the day of Ghatasthapana and on the 10th day (today), devotees offer prayers and receive Tika (a mixture of yogurt, rice, and vermilion) and Jamara from their elders. It is a time for family reunions, blessings, and cultural exchange.

People continue visiting their relatives and receiving Tika for five more days till Purnima (full moon).
