Guam will be celebrating the Mangilao Donne’, a hot pepper that graces many Chamorro dishes across the island, with festivities to be held across from the village Mayor’s Office.

Guam will be celebrating the Mangilao Donne’, a hot pepper that graces many Chamorro dishes across the island, with festivities to be held across from the village Mayor’s Office. The event will be held on Thursday & Friday, September 13 & 14, 2012 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm and on Saturday & Sunday, September 15 & 16 from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm.

This 3rd annual event celebrates Guam’s hot peppers, and feature food, entertainment, vendor sales, recipe contests, and even a crowning of Miss Donne’.

According to Lou Stein of the Guam Nurserymen’s Association, hot pepper, known locally as donne’, is practically a staple for Guam. The nurserymen’s association at this year’s festival will be showing and selling a variety of pepper plants, including what’s known as the hottest pepper in the world – the bhut jolokia, also known as the ghost pepper, which quickly is growing in popularity.
