Southern Tamil Nadu faced disruption in train services today as heavy rains hit the region, leading to cancellations and rescheduling of several trains.
The Palaruvi Express, operating between Palakkad Junction and Tirunelveli Junction with train number 16792, scheduled for departure at 4.05 pm from Palakkad Junction, was fully canceled due to waterlogging at Tirunelveli Junction within the Madurai Division. Railway authorities confirmed the cancellation of this service owing to the adverse conditions.
Moreover, the Palakkad Junction – Tiruchendur Express (train no: 16731), which set off from Palakkad Junction at 6 am, faced a shortened journey. The train was terminated prematurely at Dindigul Junction, with the service cancellation announced between Dindigul Junction and Tiruchendur due to the inclement weather.
In response to these disruptions, authorities from the Palakkad railway division disclosed changes to the schedule of the Tiruchendur – Palakkad Junction Express (train no: 16732).
The train, initially slated to commence its journey from Tiruchendur at 12.20 pm, has been rescheduled. It will now depart from Dindigul Junction at 5.50 pm. However, the service of this train remains canceled between Tiruchendur and Dindigul Junction, as confirmed by the Palakkad railway division.
The alterations in train schedules and cancellations were deemed necessary due to the challenging conditions caused by the heavy rains, impacting various parts of southern Tamil Nadu.
