KHANQIN, Iraq – Gunmen opened fire at tourist buses Wednesday in Iraq, killing five Iranians, police sources say.

The attackers struck a convoy of three minibuses at the Imam Wais district in Diyala province’s Khanqin city, an unnamed police source told KUNA, the Kuwait news agency.

The sources said all of those killed were women and 20 others were injured and taken to hospitals in the incident.

The attack came as Iranian tourists flocked to Iraq to visit Shiite religious shrines in Najaf, Karbala, Koufa and Samarra, KUNA said.
