Ladi’Lafe Concept is the name of the first typical Creole Reunion restaurant which has opened in Mexico, to the south of Cancun. Farid, a chef originally from Reunion, is one of the originators.

The restaurant serving Reunion cuisine opened up in July 2013. Located right in the middle of the major 5ta Avenida de Playa del Carmen, Ladi’Lafe Concept entices thanks to the flavors of the island, within a peaceful haven and green setting right in the city center.

Farid, a chef originally from Reunion, came to Mexico accompanied by two friends; all three came up with the idea of providing delicious and spicy Reunion cuisine at the Mexican table. Without the means to open a restaurant, by happy coincidence, they were granted the opportunity to open a restaurant within a hotel owned by a French couple, in Playa del Carmen.

“The Mexicans have fresh, good, beautiful produce, however, they do not cook it like we do in Reunion. Although spices are available, they are for the dishes typical of this area; mixtures and adaptations are easy to make.”

Farid takes advantage of visiting family or friends to bring products found specifically in Reunion with them when paying visits. Reunion cuisine is evidently greatly appreciated by Mexicans who have named it “comida fusion” – mixed cuisine. Visiting French people are also full of praise for the restaurant, the delicious flavors, the welcome received, the setting, to name but a few elements… Samosas, Camaron curries, tuna masala, and other stuffed breads in Mexico, who would have thought? Yet, it has been done!
